Section 8 Checklist
Buying an investment property you plan to rent through Section 8? Add our Section 8 preparation checklist to your investment property inspection.
How it works
- Added to a single-family, duplex, triplex or four-unit investment property inspection
- Completed by our own Ohio-licensed home inspector during your investment property inspection
- Included as an additional section of your normal inspection report
- Our own Section 8 preparation checklist, originally modeled after HUD Form 52580 (4/2015)
- Not available with residential buyer or pre-listing inspections, not available on its own, and not available for a rental you already own
What our checklist is, and isn’t
Detailed Home Inspections uses its own Section 8 preparation checklist, originally modeled after HUD Form 52580 (4/2015). It is not an official HUD, CMHA or housing-authority inspection and is not intended to replace the current inspection requirements of the applicable housing authority. It’s completed as an additional section of your normal inspection report, and we don’t issue Section 8 approval, certification or clearance.
Our Section 8 preparation checklist is intended to help identify items that may be reviewed during a housing-authority inspection. It does not represent every requirement that may apply to a property. Completing our checklist does not guarantee that a property will pass a HUD, CMHA or other housing-authority inspection.
Inspection requirements can vary by housing authority and may change over time. Property owners should confirm the current requirements with the housing authority administering their program.
Who completes the checklist
The Section 8 checklist is completed by one of our three Ohio-licensed home inspectors during your investment property inspection. Each inspector’s Ohio license number is listed on Meet the team. Your report, including the Section 8 section, is published the same day as the inspection.

Added to your investment property inspection. The Section 8 checklist can’t be added to residential buyer or pre-listing inspections, and it can’t be ordered by itself.
