How long does a home inspection take?
Most inspections take about 1.5 hours for a 1,200 sq ft home, 2.5 hours for a 2,000 sq ft home and 4 hours for a 3,500 sq ft home, and century homes usually take about an hour longer unless they’re vacant. The on-site inspection time depends on many factors such as the size of the home, its age, its condition, its configuration, if there are out buildings present, if there are ancillary inspections included such as well testing, mold testing, sewer line scoping. If the home is vacant with no furniture or personal belongings, that will be easier for the same inspector to inspect the same home as opposed to it being occupied and filled with the seller’s belongings. On site time also depends on the individual inspector’s skills, efficiency, experience level, and inspection process which includes their data collection method. This can vary widely from inspector to inspector.
